Every one of us spends about two hours a day of our own time on or in a means of transport. This does not happen, for example, when you go to the doctor or when you receive your pension. Nitel has the aim of raising transport to the same level of social dignity as health, education, and immigration. Media coverage of transportation in western countries is about 12%, but this information highlights disservice, strikes, and accidents, and therefore has no educational or preventive function. Nitel has the aim of helping the areas economy, technology, legislation, engineering, medicine, psychology, sociology, environment, communication, education/training to live together – in other words, everything that transport represents in our everyday lives.
This new way of “doing” transport”, with an total vision, for the first time brings together the various branches of the science that look at the sub-categories of the “world of transport”. Creating a University Consortium unites needed skills and experiences already present in Italy, without incurring elevated added costs. In the light of co-operation between the major actors in the transport sector and the institutions, Nitel enjoys the presence in the Scientific Council of legal representatives from Poste Italiane, RFI Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato, Anas, Autostrade per l’Italia, and Ministry: dell’Università e Ricerca della Salute, dei Trasporti, delle Infrastrutture, dello Sviluppo economico, dell’Economia e delle Finanze, degli Interni, dell’Ambiente e della Tutela del Territorio e del Mare, della Difesa. As well, the Ministero degli Affari Esteri offers its support to Nitel’s foreign initiatives.
The fundamental areas of Nitel activities are:
- scientific research
The Consortium is a legally recognised body and is subject to oversight by the Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca/Ministry of Universities and Research.
